NRSC Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy
Policy statement:
The Northern Rivers Sailing Club Ltd is committed to encouraging equality, diversity and inclusion among our members and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our members to be truly representative of all sections of society and our local community, and for each member to feel respected and able to give their best.
The Club's Commitment:
To create an environment in which individual differences and the contributions of all our members are recognised and valued.
To ensure that every member, regardless of their age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation, feels able to participate in and
contribute to the club's activities.
To not tolerate any form of intimidation, bullying, or harassment, and to discipline those that breach this policy.
To make any training, development, and progression opportunities available to all members.
To promote dignity and respect for all, and to provide a platform where individual voices can be heard.
To regularly review all our club practices and procedures to ensure fairness.
Accessibility and Inclusivity:
While recognising the physical challenges in accessing the clubhouse along a footpath or by water, we commit to exploring feasible solutions to improve accessibility for individuals with disabilities.
We will actively seek feedback from members and visitors with disabilities to enhance their experience and participation.
Membership and Participation:
We strive to attract members from diverse backgrounds. While acknowledging budget constraints, low-cost, community-focused methods will be used to reach a wider audience.
Membership fees will be reviewed to ensure they are not a barrier to participation.
We encourage the involvement of women in all club activities, including racing
and committee roles, to reflect their representation in the club.
Governance:
The committee will actively promote diversity in its composition and decision-making.
We will facilitate a supportive environment where more members feel encouraged to take on committee roles.
Annual meetings will include an EDI agenda item to discuss progress and future plans.
Addressing the Lack of Diversity:
Recognising the demographic challenges in Norfolk, we will try to engage with local communities to foster interest in sailing and the club.
Compliance for Insurance:
This policy is also a step towards fulfilling requirements for insurance and demonstrating our commitment to EDI principles.
Implementation and Review:
This policy will be regularly reviewed and updated as necessary. Members' feedback is essential for continuous improvement.
